Discover Bourgneuf-en-Retz

visit to the salt marshes

Visit the salt marshes

Welcome to the former salt capital, the most important port on the Atlantic for carrying salt. Where history and nature meet.

Daniel Robard, one of Bourgneuf-en-Retz’s salt workers, was first involved in the marsh, recreating abandoned, destroyed, modified and silted-up salt marshes.

The Salin de l’Omega hadn’t made salt for over four centuries, and the Salin de l’Alpha since 1921.

4 years of fast-paced work to harvest the precious Grain de Mer de Bourgneuf, which had an international reputation from Antiquity to the end of the 18th century.

We invite you to come and meet this incredible space, and discover this open-air boiler: Le Salin.
